New England weather will see partly cloudy skies and a spring chill

This New England week continues with the cool weather and, eventually, many of you will probably be complaining about the rain as well. Our Tuesday features a blend of clouds and sunshine with below-average temperatures remaining in the 50s and 60s.

The warmest temperatures will be away from the coastline, reaching the low 60s, but for those of you in Boston and within 5 to 10 miles of the coast, temperatures will likely struggle to climb out of the upper 50s with the wind coming in off the water. It’s not going to be a particularly strong northeasterly flow, but that air over the ocean is quite chilly, so it doesn’t take much to keep temperatures below average.

Tuesday night, the clouds will continue to roll in, and the marine air may produce some drizzle on Wednesday. Otherwise, it’s a dry day. Temperatures on Wednesday will be in the 50s everywhere as the maritime polar air becomes firmly entrenched.

Low pressure will develop and become stronger on Thursday as it moves through New England. This is a slow-moving system that’s going to head up the coastline and bring a late-season nor’easter.

The rain on Thursday could be heavy at times as it continues through the evening. Temperatures are probably going to stay in the 40s for most of the day, about 20 degrees below the long-term average.

This is a sluggish weather system, and even on Friday it’s going to remain unsettled. While we won’t have a steady rain the entire time, the risk for showers is still going to stay in the forecast.

If the Memorial Day weekend finds you at a summer beach house, hopefully it has some heat because it will remain chilly into Saturday, along with a blend of clouds and sun. Also, there’s still a small risk of a pop-up shower. Sunday appears to be the best day of the upcoming weekend, with Monday, Memorial Day looking dry right now.

Greater Boston: Temperatures will only be in the upper 50s Tuesday afternoon after starting in the 40s. There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine. It’s cloudy and cooler for Wednesday with some coastal drizzle.

Central/Western Mass.: It’s a nice Tuesday with temperatures in the low to mid-60s along with partly sunny skies. Clouds thicken on Wednesday with temperatures in the upper 50s.

Southeastern Mass.: Temperatures will be in the upper 50s to near 60 Tuesday afternoon with a mix of clouds and sunshine. A cool breeze off the water keeps temperatures in the 50s on Wednesday with lots of clouds.

Cape and Islands: A mix of clouds and sunshine with a brief sprinkle on Tuesday as temperatures reach the upper 50s. Readings stay in the mid-50s for Wednesday with lots of clouds and a brief shower.

Rhode Island: A mix of clouds and sun Tuesday with temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Clouds will dominate the skies on Wednesday with highs only in the low to mid-50s in South County and mid- to upper 50s elsewhere.

New Hampshire: Partly sunny skies for Tuesday with temperatures in the low 60s. Clouds increase Wednesday.
