Thursday: A mix of sunshine and clouds, with lower humidity and a drying trend. High: 82.
After a hot and humid day on Wednesday with sunshine and some clouds, and high temperatures well into the 80s to near 90 degrees, we’re tracking the chances for strong to severe thunderstorms moving into the region, looking ahead to Wednesday.
Here’s how the setup and timeline look as of Tuesday Night for tomorrow’s severe weather:
A frontal boundary will move into the region tonight and into Wednesday, and will “stall out” across the region.
This will be the focal point for the chances of strong to severe thunderstorms.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed part of the region under a risk for severe weather on Wednesday:
Enhanced risk (3 out of 5): Livingston, Washtenaw, Lenawee, and Monroe counties.
Slight risk (2 out of 5): Areas to the east of the Enhanced Risk for severe weather, this does include the majority of Metro Detroit.
Marginal risk (1 out of 5): Parts of Sanilac and St. Clair Counties, including Sandusky and Port Huron.
The primary threat from any severe thunderstorms on Wednesday will be damaging winds in excess of 60-70 mph, as well as large hail above one inch in diameter.
Heavy rainfall will also be possible, but we can not rule out a few tornadoes as well.
Storm Timeline:
12 p.m.-5 p.m.: Round #1 of thunderstorms, some could be strong to severe
5 p.m.-8 p.m.: Drying out, round two of thunderstorms developing
7 p.m.-1 a.m.: Round two of thunderstorms, strong to severe thunderstorms possible
Once this frontal boundary moves out of the region, we will experience drier conditions as we head into Juneteenth on Thursday and into the end of the week on Friday.
Then, as we get into the weekend, we look ahead to our first summer heat wave on the way, just in time for the “official” start of summer as well.
We will bring in plenty of sunshine on Saturday, Sunday, and into the first part of next week, and high temperatures will soar by the time we reach Sunday and next week.
High temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s from Sunday through Tuesday.
However, once humidity is factored in, we could easily see heat index values in the lower 100s by the end of the weekend as well.
