Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf’s children have had to grow up in the shadow of not one but two tennis icons. Both Agassi and Graf are widely considered to be among the greatest players to ever grace the sport.

Agassi, 55, won all four Grand Slams – starting with Wimbledon in 1992, four at the Australian Open and a total of eight overall. The son of an Iranian-born Armenian boxer, he also clinched Olympic gold and three Davis Cups for the United States. After his only victory at the French Open in 1999, he began dating ladies’ singles champion Graf, who herself won an incredible 22 singles Grand Slam titles from 31 finals, including a streak of 13 consecutive wins.

The German legend remains the only individual to win all four majors at least four times and is the last male or female singles player to win four Grand Slams in a single year.

Agassi and Graf, who share a combined total of 30 Grand Slam titles, tied the knot in 2001. Shortly after their wedding, they welcomed their son Jaden Gil Agassi into the world, followed by their daughter Jaz Elle almost exactly two years later.

Despite their own passion for tennis and more recently pickleball, the superstar parents were adamant about not pressuring their children to follow in their footsteps. However, it’s clear that both have inherited a wealth of sporting talent and excellent hand-eye coordination.

Despite his background, Jaden, 23, had a relatively normal upbringing compared to his parents, who were consumed by the gruelling tennis circuit from a young age. Left to choose his own path, Jaden naturally gravitated towards the baseball diamond.

Standing tall at 6ft 3in, the pitcher faced challenges early on, having had to undergo elbow surgery after his first high school game in 2019 and having his 2020 season derailed by Covid-19.

He went on to play for the University of Southern California Trojans while studying business, experiencing mixed fortunes in those three years. His sophomore year was solid with a 3-2 record and a 4.34 ERA, but he struggled after a coaching change, posting a 9.70 ERA as a junior.

Last summer, the young Agassi found his footing again in MLB’s draft league with a 2.96 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 27 1/3 innings for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

Reflecting on his ambitions in baseball, Jaden said: “Agassi is a very tennis last name – the goal is to try to make it a baseball one too.”

But that proved more difficult than initially thought as the youngster struggled in his debut at the World Baseball Classic Qualifiers earlier this year, where he represented Team Germany. Playing for his mum’s nation of birth, Agassi entered the game against Brazil in the fourth inning but was taken off before the end of the frame after a sacrifice bunt moved a runner to second base.

Away from the field, he maintains a low profile, rarely sharing pictures on his Instagram. However, in September, Jaden provided a rare insight into his personal life by celebrating his two year relationship milestone with his girlfriend, Catherine Holt.

Alongside a collection of romantic photos showing the couple kissing, attending sports games and posing for mirror selfies, Jaden wrote: “Best two years of my life and it’s all thanks to you! I love you so much I can’t wait for so many more to come.”

Catherine shares Jaden’s love for sport, boasting a Sport Management degree and experience interning at the Texas Rangers Baseball Club. Catherine wrote on her LinkedIn: “I’m highly passionate about the sports industry and making an impact as a woman in sports.”

Agassi and Graf’s daughter, Jaz, is even more private than her brother. Like Jaden, she was born and raised in Las Vegas.

She has dabbled in horse riding, golf and dancing, even claiming victories in hip-hop dance contests when she was younger. A glance at her Instagram shows that she enjoys spending time outdoors, taking part in everything from snowboarding to making “cow friends” at a farm. Jaz is likewise passionate about arts as she tries to forge a career in fashion.

Shedding light on their upbringing, mum Steffi said: “Jaz plays a little bit of tennis, Jaden not so much. We never really introduced tennis so much into their lives. They’ve chosen other things that we were surprised with… they love their arts and music.”
